Niantic is famous for creating the Pokémon Go phenomena, a leader in the AR game space. Spun out as a Google internal start up in 2010, Niantic since has been backed by companies including Google, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The company is launching Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, another AR focused game. Beyond specific game products, the company is working to build out a sophisticated AR platform for 3rd party developers called “Real World Platform.” The platform will open up AR technologies and analytics to other companies in the market. In 2018 Niantic purchased portfolio company Seismic Games.
